The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has urged a comprehensive forensic audit of the 2024 budget and advocated for reforms in the budgetary process, citing concerns over the National Assembly’s insensitivity to budget padding amid widespread poverty.
In a statement issued by Mohammed Ishaq, the PRP’s National Publicity Secretary, the party emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, proposing that the audit be conducted by a reputable third-party organization with findings made public.
Furthermore, the PRP called for reforms, including implementing stringent guidelines to prevent undue influence on budget allocations, establishing a centralized database for monitoring all budget processes, and imposing strict penalties for violating these guidelines.
The party also denounced constituency projects, citing their susceptibility to abuse and corruption and advocating for their discontinuation.
Critically, the PRP condemned the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi following his exposure of budget padding, denouncing it as morally unjust and legally unacceptable.
