The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) launched its food intervention program in Lagos State, distributing 80,000 10kg bags of rice to the state government for distribution to vulnerable individuals. The initiative aims to support residents during Ramadan and alleviate the challenges posed by the current economic hardship.
The distribution ceremony took place at the Lagos House, where Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu welcomed Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, and Chairman of the foundation, alongside his team. Among the attendees were Mr. Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Bank Nigeria Plc, Zouera Youssoufou, Managing Director of the foundation, and Fatima Aliko Dangote, Executive Director of Dangote Industries Limited.
This initiative follows a similar food distribution event in Kano, where over 120,000 bags of rice were distributed. Additionally, the foundation distributes 12,500 loaves of family-sized bread daily in Lagos State.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote emphasized the Dangote Group’s longstanding commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during Ramadan for the past three decades. He pledged to reach all 774 local governments in Nigeria by the end of Ramadan, aiming to alleviate hardship among vulnerable populations nationwide.
Zouera Youssoufou, CEO of ADF, highlighted the foundation’s collaboration with credible NGOs, civil societies, and religious organizations to ensure equitable distribution to the most vulnerable individuals in Lagos State.
Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director (Commercial Operations) at Dangote Industries Limited, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to reaching all 774 local government areas in Nigeria with this intervention. The Lagos distribution follows the successful rollout of 120,000 bags of rice in Kano.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Dangote for prioritizing the welfare of Nigerians over profit, acknowledging the significant impact of the foundation’s support in mitigating hardship across the country.
