- Lagos government had warned that any defaulter caught will be prosecuted
Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps apprehended 63 individuals for crossing highways without using pedestrian bridges and engaging in street trading.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared this update on his social media handle on Friday.
The caption reads, “63 persons were arrested yesterday by the officials of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial(KAI) at different locations in the state for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridge, and street trading.
“Some of these locations are Oshodi Oke, Ile Epo, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ajah, etc.They have been charged to the court for prosecution in line with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Protection Law 2017.”
Thirteen persons were arrested on Thursday for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridge at the Oshodi Oke area of the state.
In February, the Lagos State Government urged residents to make use of pedestrian bridges as it described the crossing of major highways in the state by pedestrians as an offence.
It added that any defaulter caught will be prosecuted.
