Leaders Unite to Preach Love and Unity During Easter Celebrations

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and others come together to advocate for love, unity, and hope

Happy Easter

As Nigeria commemorates Easter today, prominent figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, governors, and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have come together to advocate for love, unity, and hope.

In his Easter message released from his Abuja media office, Atiku emphasized the importance of love and sacrifice in fostering unity amidst prevailing challenges threatening the nation’s cohesion. He urged Nigerians to emulate the virtues demonstrated by Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection.

Similarly, Speaker Tajudeen, through his special adviser on media and publicity Musa Abdullahi Krishi, urged citizens to exhibit selflessness and sacrifice, echoing the values embodied by Christ. He emphasized the need for leaders and followers to work collectively towards common goals, advocating for prayers to overcome Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu echoed similar sentiments, urging Nigerians to spread love and embody Christ’s teachings, emphasizing virtues such as love, kindness, and forgiveness.

Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the CAN president, in an Easter message he signed on Saturday, noted that amidst citizens’ daily challenges and triumphs, Easter stood as a timeless reminder of hope, renewal and redemption.

“It is a season that calls us to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made for humanity and the triumph of light over darkness.

“The lessons of Easter hold particular relevance for Nigeria today. In a time marked by uncertainty, we are called to embody the virtues of love for one another. Just as Christ’s resurrection brought new life and hope to the world, so too can we, as a nation, rise above our differences and difficulties and work towards a brighter future.

“Let us remember that Easter is not merely a time for celebration but a call to action. As leaders, we are responsible for bringing newness into the system by leading with integrity, compassion and humility.”

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State also extended Easter greetings, emphasizing the importance of interfaith harmony and prayers for lasting peace.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State called on the Christian faithful to renew hope for a better future during the Easter celebration.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called on the federal government to address the high cost of living, urging Nigerians to seek national renewal and rekindle love and commitment towards one another.

These collective messages from leaders across various sectors highlight the importance of love, unity, and hope as Nigeria celebrates Easter, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to overcome challenges and work towards a brighter future.
