Teen electrocuted while fetching water in Ogun, police launch investigation

The Ogun police command has reported the tragic death of a 15-year-old girl due to electrocution in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.

Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the command, disclosed that the victim, Miracle Ogbona, was electrocuted while fetching water at the Olomore Housing Estate area of Abeokuta.

According to Odutola, Onyekachi Silas from Olomore Housing Estate notified the divisional police officer (DPO) of Lafenwa about the incident.

Silas informed the DPO that his younger brother had called him around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday to report the electrocution of Miracle Ogbonna, who was 15 years old and the younger sister of his brother’s wife.

“He further stated that there was a power outage in the house and Ogbonna went to the well to fetch water.

“In the process of fetching water, power was restored and Ogbonna was tragically electrocuted by a naked cable wire of the pumping machine placed inside the well.

“She was rushed to a private hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed her dead.”

The police spokesperson said an investigation into the case has commenced, adding that the corpse has been deposited at the Oke Lantoro morgue.
