- Alkali made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during an inspection of the project
The Federal Government has disclosed why work is yet to commence on the Port Harcourt-Aba Standard Gauge rail project.
The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, attributed the delay in the commencement of work to financial issues relating to the project’s award which he said the government was addressing.
Alkali made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during an inspection of the project.
He stated that the project was awarded by the previous administration, and that upon assuming office, the current administration had to settle financing matters before Kickstarting the project.
He underscored the importance of ensuring that all financial arrangements were taken care of before beginning such a project.
The minister assured that once the financial aspects were resolved, the project would commence immediately, affirming the government’s commitment to developing rail projects across the country.
Alkali directed the contractor to connect the Port Harcourt rail to both the Port Harcourt port and the Onne port as part of the project’s implementation
