‘All that glitters isn’t gold’– Ogun police warn women on dangers of hook-up

Hookup involves sex without dating but for monetary transactions

The Ogun state police command has advised women against engaging in hookups and other improper sexual-related activities.

In a post via its X page, the state’s police urged ladies who indulged in sex for money to know that such a lifestyle could expose them to “ritual killers”.

“Avoid being a victim of ritual killing, hook up and it’s dangers! You may go and never return. Girls wake up!” the post reads.

“Young girls, do you know who you are being hooked up to? That person may exchange your beautiful head for peanuts. All that glitters is not gold.”

Hookup is a culture that accepts and encourages casual sex encounters, including one-night stands and other related activities, without necessarily including emotional intimacy, bonding, or a committed relationship.

Also called nonrelationship sex or sex without dating, it involves monetary transactions between both — male and female — parties.

Hookup is prevalent in Nigeria and many parts of the world.

The impacts can range from ritual killing, emotional and psychological injury, sexual violence, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and/or unintended pregnancy.
