The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an individual who was dismissed from the Nigerian Navy in 2000 but has been impersonating a serving military officer. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a brief statement issued on Saturday.
The arrested individual, identified as Muhammed Tunde, has allegedly been extorting N20,000 from members of the public while falsely presenting himself as a current military personnel. Additionally, he has reportedly assaulted innocent residents.
However, the police spokesperson said that Tunde had been making people believe he was still a serving military personnel, and also charged N20,000 from people as well as beat up innocent residents.
The police said that Tunde was arrested while he and his boys were beating a hotel staff, a job contracted to him by one of the hotel customers who was asked to stop smoking in a “no smoking” area of the hotel.
The police spokesperson said, “Dismissed Nigerian Navy personnel, Muhammed Tunde (dismissed since 2000), making people believe he’s a serving military personnel, charges N20,000 to bring his boys and beat up anybody for you.
“He was apprehended while he and his boys were beating a hotel staff, a job contracted to him by one of the hotel customers who was asked to stop smoking in a ‘no smoking’ area of the hotel.
“Prosecution follows!”
