In Ondo State, two siblings have met their end after they were crushed to death by a sand-laden truck on Saturday.
The tragic incident happened in the commercial town of Ore, in Odigbo Local Government Area of the South West State, tossing its people into grief and despair.
The truck reportedly rammed into the motorcycle the siblings were on at the Idi-Mango axis of Ore along the Okitipupa-Ore highway.
The accident was said to have been caused by the recklessness of the siblings as they attempted to navigate their motorcycle onto the highway.
The identities of the siblings were yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
According to the residents, the truck, laden with sand, was unable to maneuver away from the motorcycle as the siblings’ miscalculation led to the fatal head-on collision.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of the residents, who narrated what transpired, said, “They were trying to link the road from Idi-Mango when they suddenly realised that the truck had approached them. I think they didn’t observe very well to check for coming vehicles.
“The driver of the truck ran away after the incident while the truck has been taken to the police station in Ore.”
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ezekiel SonAllah, confirmed the incident.
He advised motorcyclists to always endeavour to avoid over-speeding while on the highway.
SonAllah added that “the victim’s corpses were deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary in Ore, while the crashed vehicles were handed over to the NPF Ore Division”
