Kano Governor Yusuf Responds to Ganduje: My 8 Months in Office Outshine Your 8 Wasted Years

• Yusuf’s spokesperson highlighted alleged corruption and mismanagement during Ganduje’s eight-year tenure as governor, in response to Ganduje’s criticisms

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has countered his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s criticisms, labeling Ganduje’s eight-year tenure as a period of failure and maladministration.

Ganduje, currently serving as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accused Governor Yusuf of employing diversionary tactics to conceal his alleged failure to fulfil his mandate in the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje asserted that Governor Yusuf was deflecting attention from the state’s lack of tangible development despite the substantial increase in statutory allocations under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Ganduje’s remarks came in response to the Kano State Government’s decision to press criminal charges against him for allegedly receiving bribes totaling $413,000 and N1.38 billion.

Governor Yusuf, through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, rebuffed Ganduje’s accusations by highlighting the purported massive corruption, misappropriation of public funds, and sale of government assets during Ganduje’s eight-year tenure.

He said, “Our eight months in office have remarkably outweighed Ganduje’s eight wasted years of political caricature and maladministration by all standards. We wish to reaffirm the present administration’s resolve and readiness to make anyone found guilty of corruption to face the full wrath of the law for their intentional wrongdoings.

“The administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasises that it would leave no stone unturned to pursue the dollar video scandal to a logical conclusion. He therefore requests the release of the forensic investigation conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) on ‘Gandollar saga’ in 2018, for public consumption.”
