Bauchi approves N40m to battle farm insects, pests

The move was to ensure timely and effective control of the outbreak due to its emergency need

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has sanctioned the acquisition of Agrochemicals and additional equipment valued at N40 million to combat a recent surge of insects and pests infesting farmlands throughout the state.

Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by the State Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Simon Madugu Yalams, made this announcement during the launch of an aerial spray campaign targeting Quelea birds at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport in Bauchi.

Yalams noted, “The move was to ensure timely and effective control of the outbreak due to its emergency need.

“Agriculture is the backbone of the Bauchi economy, and the sector employs over 75 per cent population of the state.”

According to him, it is against this backdrop that the Mohammed administration since inception, made a lot of efforts towards transforming the agricultural sector to a business that will enhance the earning power of the teeming farming families.

He added that the transformation of the sector is aimed at attracting investors, donor agencies, and development partners from both within and outside the country.
