The Anambra State Police Command has reported that a Joint Security Force, in pursuit of gunmen and criminals targeting security installations, discovered nine Improvised Explosive Devices and four Walkie Talkies in a forest within Ogbaru Local Government Area.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He mentioned that the areas around Amiyi and Ochuche were thoroughly searched for insurgents. Ikenga added that the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy provided significant support to the operation, resulting in the successful clearance of the hoodlums from their forest hideouts.
“Several camps were found and destroyed during the operation which lasted several hours.
“Nine Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) recovered from the camps were safely defused by the Police Bomb Squad.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the military for its steadfastness in supporting the fight against criminality.
“He also thanked the DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, NIS and various Vigilante Groups across the State for the wonderful synergy that is yielding fantastic results in keeping Anambra State safe.”
“The Commissioner of Police also warned cultists running amok in the state capital to be aware that their days are numbered. He warned that security will not fold its hands and watch them destabilise the state in the name of cult rivalry leading to fatalities,” the police spokesperson said.
