President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called upon Nigerian tertiary institutions to adhere to the federal government’s guidelines for good governance and sound financial management, particularly following their transition from the Integrated Personnel Payment System (IPPIS).

Addressing attendees at the 13th convocation ceremony of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and the Investiture of the new Chancellor, Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku’ Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, in Abuja on Saturday, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of implementing these guidelines.

President Tinubu, represented by Joel Saliu, the Deputy Executive Secretary for Academics at the National Universities Commission, highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Federal Ministry of Education and relevant stakeholders to develop these guidelines for tertiary institutions. He affirmed the government’s commitment to promoting open and distance learning to enhance educational access.

Moreover, Tinubu underscored the government’s dedication to integrating technology into tertiary education delivery, citing the licensing of four private open universities alongside NOUN as evidence of this commitment. This strategic approach aims to improve the quality, accessibility, and affordability of education nationwide.
