- Following peaceful protest, NANS reiterates commitment to student interests, emphasizes need for competent youths in government roles
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to tolerate incompetent individuals in his government.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, NANS President Comrade Pedro Obi expressed concerns about the competence of the Minister of State for Youth Development and the SSA to the President on Student Engagement.
Following a peaceful protest at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Obi reiterated NANS’ commitment to fighting for the interests of Nigerian students and emphasized that they will not be intimidated.
Obi stated, “We have incompetent people who have been appointed to offices. It’s unfortunate and it’s not the President’s fault, of course, he believes in Nigerian youths and has also given us the opportunity to showcase our capacity in various roles that he has given us. These people have displayed incompetence and are destroying the youth community.”
He further emphasized that there are many competent youths whom President Tinubu can choose from for government roles.
In response, the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office in the OSGF, Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri, assured NANS that their complaints would be relayed to the SGF.
Mbaeri affirmed, “I assure you that your complaints will get to the listening ears of Mr. President… President Tinubu has an indebt love for the youths of Nigeria and also for the students of Nigeria.”
He urged NANS to maintain peace and tranquility, assuring them that President Tinubu is attentive to their needs and concerns. He promised to report back to the SGF, who would address the matter with the President.
