On Thursday, the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu stated that President Bola Tinubu intentionally selected northerners to fill significant positions.
Speaking in Sokoto, Ribadu noted that Tinubu strategically appointed northerners to tackle the region’s challenges head-on.
During his lecture titled “Navigating The Maze: Addressing Multi-Dimensional Insecurity Challenges In Northern Nigeria” at the Usmanu Danfordiyo University’s combined convocation, Ribadu highlighted the myriad issues facing the North, including insecurity and the alarming rate of out-of-school children.
He underscored Tinubu’s commitment to addressing these challenges by entrusting key roles to northerners. Ribadu emphasized that Tinubu’s administration prioritized the North, appointing northerners to crucial positions such as security, defense, agriculture, education, health, and foreign affairs.
Ribadu urged northerners to set aside their differences and collaborate to improve the region and Nigeria.
Regarding security, Ribadu commended the government’s efforts, citing the elimination of prominent bandit commanders and the successful rescue of kidnapped victims without ransom payments.
He highlighted the reduction in cases of student abductions and the neutralization of terrorist activities across the country.
Ribadu emphasized Tinubu’s adoption of counterinsurgency strategies aimed at winning community support, isolating insurgents, and preventing recruitment. These strategies, he explained, involve community engagement, humanitarian assistance, reconciliation, and deradicalization programs.
Ribadu affirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructural development, job creation, education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and inequality reduction, as outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
