Policeman shoots Oyo varsity student dead, injures others

The situation are when the police officer was summoned to resolve a dispute between two individuals within the school

On Monday, a tragic incident unfolded at the Ladoke Akintola University Of Technology (LAUTECH) in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, where a policeman reportedly shot a student dead and injured two others.

Reports indicate that the situation arose when the police officer was summoned to resolve a dispute between two individuals within the school. Instead of de-escalating the situation, the officer allegedly fired shots into the air, inadvertently causing the death of one student and injuring two others.

SaharaReporters reported that that there is currently a significant protest underway at the school. Angered students have blocked the school gates, demanding justice for the victims.

An X user, @eclat_media247, who posted about the incident said, “All school (LAUTECH) gates locked, according to report, a policeman was called to settle a squash between two people, instead of him to settle the fight or arrest them, he shot sporadically into the air, one student died and two reportedly injured.”

Another source said that the police officer was one of the arrow heads of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) officers who allegedly terrorised the students community in LAUTECH in Ogbomoso.

The source said, “The officer in question has his picture all over the Internet during the Endsars saga, he was one of the arrow heads of the disbanded SARS officer who terrorised the students community in LAUTECH Ogbomoso.

“After the EndSars saga one would expect that normalcy would have been restored but instead he was drafted back into the police force and here we are praying for another family for strength to bear the loss of a child who only came to celebrate with his brother on his convocation.”

Another source said, “So how do we explain this, a policeman was called to settle a squash between two people, instead of the law enforcer to settle the fight or arrest them, he shot sporadically into the air and shot two brothers who were not even fighting, One of them is dead and the other is injured.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the police failed as the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, SP Adewale Osifeso proved abortive.
