Soldier shoots dead plateau resident while celebrating birthday

The incident occurred shortly after gunmen invaded the state university

A Nigerian soldier named Godwin has been accused of killing Joseph Jelman, a resident of Marish village in the Bokkos local government area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred shortly after gunmen invaded the state university, as reported by SaharaReporters.

Trouble began when the soldier, celebrating his birthday at a beer parlour, started shooting towards the roof.

Despite pleas from the facility’s owners to stop damaging their property, he ignored them and fired a shot that tragically killed Joseph, who was a passerby.

Recall that the Plateau Peace Practitioners Network (PPPN) had called for investigation into the earlier attacks on two communities of Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of Plateau State, where at least 15 persons were reportedly killed including a 200-level Computer Science student at the State University.

It was learnt that the attack took place in Tilengpat and Butura communities of the LGA while the residents were sleeping, around 9pm last Thursday.
