- Governor Agbu Kefas and other Taraba State figures express concern over the stalled construction of the multi-billion naira Ibbi Bridge
- The project, awarded in 2020, has been at a standstill for two years, prompting a site visit to assess the situation
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, alongside other prominent figures from the state, has expressed grave concern regarding the stagnation of the construction of the multi-billion naira Ibbi Bridge.
Initially awarded in 2020 by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the project, which involves the construction of a bridge spanning the Benue River, carries an estimated cost of N70 billion.
Regrettably, the construction has been at a standstill for the past two years, with the company tasked with its completion failing to make progress.
Governor Agbu Kefas, accompanied by retired General T. Y. Danjuma, members of the National Assembly representing Taraba Southern senatorial zone, and other key stakeholders, visited the project site in Ibbi town yesterday to assess the situation firsthand.
During the visit, Governor Kefas expressed deep concerns about the halted progress of the bridge project. He highlighted its immense potential to stimulate economic development in the region and address transportation challenges faced by residents.
Governor Kefas underscored the importance of the completed bridge as a critical link, offering a shorter route to the federal capital, Abuja, and various other states across the country.
He urged the federal government to take urgent measures to mobilize the contractor back to the project site, emphasizing the necessity of expediting the completion of the bridge to benefit the region’s socio-economic development.
