- Kaduna State Assembly launches probe into financial activities under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration from 2015 to 2023
- Governor Uba Sani expresses concerns over financial challenges, prompting the Assembly to establish a fact-finding committee to investigate finances
The Kaduna State House of Assembly has taken steps to investigate financial activities during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai from 2015 to 2023.
In response to allegations of a significant debt burden inherited by current Governor Uba Sani, the Assembly has directed the Ministry of Finance for Kaduna State to furnish details of all financial transactions during El-Rufai’s administration.
Governor Sani voiced concerns over the state’s financial status during a town hall meeting in Kaduna, highlighting challenges in meeting salary obligations due to the state’s depleted treasury upon assuming office.
Consequently, the Assembly established a fact-finding committee to probe all finances, loans, and projects awarded under El-Rufai’s two-term administration.
Sakinatu Idris, Clerk of the Assembly, wrote to the Finance Commissioner requesting a memorandum and documents related to financial transactions conducted between May 2015 and May 2023.
The Assembly outlined specific documents required, including records of loans, state executive council minutes, payments to contractors, reports on salaries, and details of government property sales.
The directive emphasized the importance of timely submission, with a deadline set for April 25, 2024, to ensure a thorough examination of the financial records.
This move reflects the Assembly’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, as it seeks to shed light on the state’s financial management during El-Rufai’s tenure.
