Two Premier League players have been apprehended over an alleged rape, the police have said.
The two players, whose identities are not divulged, were arrested following last weekend’s round of matches.
Both players, who are 19 and play for the same club, were arrested in front of their club’s stadium over the weekend.
They have since been released on bail after being interviewed by the police, the BBC reports.
“Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape,” a police spokesperson said. “A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape.
“A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail,” the police added.
According to the BBC, the incident occurred on Friday and was first reported by The Sun. It is not immediately clear whether the players have been suspended by their club pending the outcome of the police investigation.
