- The incident is one of the many attacks on police operatives by gunmen in the state
A police inspector has been killed in Nigeria’s oil-rich southern State of Rivers.
The deceased, who is identified as Sunday Baba, was shot dead by the rampaging gunmen terrorising the state.
The police in the state confirmed the development in a terse statement on its official X page on Thursday.
According to the police, Baba, who served at Rumuolumeni area of the state, lost his life on duty on Wednesday.
“It’s sad that being a police officer means leaving home in good health, never certain of your return,” the Command said without providing details of how the operative was killed.
Rivers has been the hotbed of violent attacks and wanton killings by armed non-state actors. The situation has led to death of many security agents, especially police officers, in the State.
Two months ago a police officer was killed by gunmen while conducting a stop and search operation in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
