JUST-IN: Tunji-Ojo Visits Suleja Custodial Centre Over Escape Of 119 Inmates

Heavy downpour that lasted for several hours on the night of Wednesday, 24 April 2024 has wreaked havoc on the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, Niger state

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of interior has conducted an inspection of the Suleja medium security custodial center to determine the extent of the damage caused by Wednesday night’s intense rains.

Within Nigeria had reported that no fewer than 119 inmates escaped, following hours of heavy downpour.

The stormy escape of the fugitive prisoners sent terror through the Suleja community and surrounding areas.

The purpose of the minister’s visit was to learn firsthand details of the incident and the steps being taken to apprehend the escaping prisoners and return them to the center.

Top officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) were present to greet the minister and his team, according to sources.

The minister was accompanied by officials of the ministry, including Peter Egbodo, director of joint services.

Ten of the inmates have been arrested and returned to the facility, while a manhunt has been launched by the NCoS authorities together with sister security agencies to smoke out the fleeing escapees from their hideouts.

More security personnel have also been drafted to the surroundings of the facility while the areas have been cordoned off.
