During the 2024 biennial convention of the National Council for Women’s Societies (NCWS) held in Abuja under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, among other key stakeholders, emphasized the need for developing new strategies and increasing investments to advance women’s empowerment for national growth.

Representing the First Lady at the convention, Mrs. Chioma Hope-Uzodinma, wife of the Imo State governor, highlighted the pivotal role of women in driving societal progress and development. She stressed the importance of the convention as an opportunity for reflection, discussion, and strategic planning to further women’s causes across the nation. Mrs. Hope-Uzodinma called for collaboration among the private sector, civil society, and the federal government to support reforms to invest in women.

Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, urged women to actively participate in government programs to alleviate poverty and enhance their economic well-being. She emphasized the significance of the new e-market portal in breaking down market barriers, providing Nigerian women with improved access to funding opportunities and empowerment initiatives to enhance their livelihoods.
