A deadly clash between rival cult groups in Edo state has left at least two people dead.
The deceased persons, who were students of Edo State University, AAU, were shot dead during the clash which happened last Friday.
One of the victims was a 400- Level student in the Faculty of Agriculture and official of the Students’ Union Government of the institution.
According to DAILY POST, he was gunned down at the poultry road extension in Ekpoma.
It’s gathered that trouble began two days earlier when one Eddy was reportedly beaten to stupor by a group of persons for allegedly purchasing items with “fake bank alert.”
The news of Eddy’s beating was said to have been misconstrued as an attack by rival cult members and that he (Eddy) was killed.
The misinterpretation of event , however, reportedly led to a reprisal attack by a rival cult group, resulting in fatality of the two students on Friday.
The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the killings.
According to him, yes, the command is aware of it and investigation is ongoing in the matter and some suspects have been arrested.
