- The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in Kano warns of potential disconnection by Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO)
- KEDCO’s ultimatum demanding MAN’s retraction of objection to electricity tariff increase raises concerns over potential factory closures
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Kano Branch, has raised an alarm regarding a letter issued by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), warning industrial firms of disconnection starting May 3rd, 2024. This action is perceived as a significant risk to the national economy and could result in widespread job losses.
In a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Mohammed Bello I Umar, Chairman of Bompai/Jigawa, and Alhaji Nura S Madugu, Chairman of Shaafa/Chalawa, MAN expressed grave concerns over KEDCO’s ultimatum.
The statement reveals that KEDCO had demanded MAN to retract its objection to the recent electricity tariff increase or face disconnection effective May 3rd, 2024.
The statement describes the situation as regrettable and predicts the imminent closure of numerous factories if the disconnection threat is carried out.
Efforts to reach KEDCO’s spokesperson, Malam Sani Bala Sani, for comment were unsuccessful as calls to his mobile phones went unanswered.
