In collaboration with other stakeholders, the federal government has called for an effective proposal for the global pandemic fund application and robust health security systems in the country. They stated that doing so would strengthen preparedness and response against disease outbreaks and pandemics.
This call was made on Monday in Abuja during the national dialogue on Nigeria’s Pandemic Fund Grant Application organized by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
The Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasized the federal government’s commitment to strengthening domestic efforts against disease outbreaks and building resilient health infrastructure. He highlighted the Pandemic Fund as a critical tool to facilitate cross-sectoral collaboration in effectively addressing health challenges.
Dr. Jide Idris, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), noted that the dialogue aimed to ensure Nigeria’s application for the pandemic fund effectively addresses national needs. He stressed that the COVID-19 pandemic underscored Nigeria’s need for a robust health security infrastructure focusing on prevention, disease surveillance, and preparedness and response capabilities.
