- Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, urges successor Dr. Alex Otti to prioritize governance over allegations concerning airport project
- Ex-Information Commissioner John Okiyi Kalu advises Otti to provide transparency with documented evidence, clarifying redirection of N10 billion for other projects
Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has urged his successor, Dr. Alex Otti, to prioritize governance over allegations amidst reports concerning the expenditure of N10 billion earmarked for an airport project in the state.
Ikpeazu responded to claims suggesting that his administration awarded a N10 billion contract for airport construction without executing the project. He maintained that Otti should focus on effective governance rather than pursuing clout with purported forensic reports on Abia’s finances.
Former Information Commissioner under Ikpeazu, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, also addressed the issue, urging Otti to refrain from grandstanding and instead provide transparency to Abians with documented evidence. Okiyi-Kalu clarified that the alleged N10 billion initially allocated for the airport project was redirected to other projects with the approval of the Executive Council. This decision came after traditional rulers advised Ikpeazu to prioritize repairing major roads in the state over the airport project.
