Unknown gunmen suspected to be herdsmen terrorising Benue State have unleashed terror on the beleaguered middle belt enclave again.
The rampaging herders killed at least eleven persons when they attacked Ole’Adag’aklo village in Usha Council Ward of Agatu LGA of the State.
Among those killed during attack, which happened last Sunday evening, was a pregnant woman.
Locals said the gunmen stormed the village oand unleashed mayhem on the inhabitants, killing 11 and abducting others.
The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Yakubu Ochepo, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday.
He disclosed that the corpses of those killed have been recovered by soldiers, adding that more hands are needed to tackle the situation.
“11 people were killed. Of the number, seven corpses have been recovered. The corpses of a pregnant woman, an elderly man and five youths have been recovered. The soldiers have been able to recover the remaining four corpses.
“Soldiers went there to recover the corpses. There were gunshots and the armed herders ran away only to regroup. I’m in Makurdi now to report to Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS). We need more hands. We hear they also captured some people alive and threw others into the river.”
Benue has been under unrelenting attacks and wanton killings for months on end now.
At least four people were killed when gunmen attacked communities in Kwande Local Government Area of the State last Saturday.
The communities, Mbachon and Mbagbe communities in Turan, Yaav Council Ward, came under attack about 5 pm on Saturday.
