Governor Siminalayi Fubara
  • Shittu questions the sincerity of Fubara’s investigation pledge, citing his past involvement with the Wike administration as suspicious
  • He urges for impartiality in assessing both Wike’s governance and Fubara’s accusations, emphasizing the need for balanced scrutiny

Wahab Shittu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is sceptical of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s pledge to investigate his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, labelling it a self-indictment.

Fubara’s announcement of a forthcoming inquiry into the Wike administration was criticised during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday, according to Shittu.

Highlighting Fubara’s previous involvement in the Wike government, Shittu remarked, “Fubara was an integral part of the Wike administration. Thus, his desire to scrutinize its actions raises questions about his accountability within that context.”

Shittu underscored the principle of governmental continuity and the need for impartial assessment. He acknowledged Governor Wike’s reputation for infrastructural development but emphasized the necessity of scrutinizing the projects’ execution and overall benefit to the populace.

The SAN urged a balanced approach to the allegations, cautioning against hasty judgments. He emphasized the political backdrop of Fubara’s statements and advocated for impartiality in evaluating Wike’s governance and Fubara’s accusations.

Shittu concluded by advocating for an open-minded approach to the situation, refraining from premature assertions of innocence or guilt regarding either party.
