In a bid to address the long-standing trust deficit between Nigerian youth and the police force, the Federal Government has unveiled the “Young & Secure Project”, a revolutionary initiative aimed at fostering collaboration, trust, and empowerment.
Unveiled by the Ministers of State for Police Affairs and Youth Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, respectively, the project seeks to empower youth to become active participants in nation-building and ensure their safety and security.
The “Young & Secure Project” comprises three main blocks: a pact to enhance civic commitment, youth-focused engagement, and a technology-driven transparency and accountability platform.
This comprehensive approach aims to address the root causes of discord and mistrust, promoting a new era of collaboration and mutual empowerment between youth and law enforcement agencies.
According to Suleiman-Ibrahim, “The Nigerian youths have spoken clearly on their expectations from the government, and we have heard their voices loud and clear. We assure them that this administration remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring their safety, security, and prosperity.”
Olawande emphasized that the project “is not merely about enhancing security measures or implementing top-down directives. It’s about empowering our youth to shape the future of our country.”
This landmark initiative marks a significant shift in the government’s approach to youth-police relations, acknowledging the urgent need for proactive and innovative solutions.
By elevating the role of Nigerian youth in the security architecture, the “Young & Secure Project” paves the way for a more inclusive, intelligence-led, and community-based police force.
