- TRACE Commander explained that the government only gives permits to organise social events and not to block roads for other people’s usage.
- He said TRACE officers prioritize sensitization and counseling of offenders through corrective measures over enforcement.
The Commander and CEO of Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Cdr Seni Ogunyemi, has cautioned residents against blocking roads for social events.
Ogunyemi said that it is illegal and can disrupt traffic flow.
During a radio program in Abeokuta, Ogunyemi clarified that while the government issues permits for social events, these permits do not grant permission to block public roads.
He explained that sections six and seven of the law establishing TRACE prohibit blocking roads for social parties, and that TRACE must be involved in ensuring free traffic flow at such events.
Ogunyemi attributed the problem to lawlessness on the part of some individuals, who mistakenly believe that local government permits entitle them to block public roads.
He emphasized the need for continuous public enlightenment to curb this behavior, noting that TRACE officers prioritize sensitization and counseling of offenders through corrective measures over enforcement.
By educating the public on the importance of respecting traffic laws and regulations, TRACE aims to promote a safer and more orderly environment for all road users.
