The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has officially handed over the first phase of the Federal University of Transportation in Daura to the Nigerian government.
During the handover ceremony in Abuja, CCECC Nigeria Chairman Jason Zhang highlighted that construction of the $50 million project began in 2019 in Daura, Katsina State.
Zhang stated, “The project has employed over 1,000 youths as part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility and strengthening China-Nigeria relations. This first university in Africa, will modernize Nigeria’s transport infrastructure and help young Nigerians achieve their academic goals.”
Minister of Transportation Said Alkali praised the university project as a significant partnership with CCECC. He noted that CCECC has also sponsored over 200 Nigerian students to study transport and rail engineering in China. The federal government, he assured, will provide full support for the university to foster growth and development in Nigeria.
Prof. Adam Katsayal, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Transportation, emphasized that this institution is unique in Nigeria and Africa. He encouraged youths interested in transportation engineering to apply, noting that the university has started academic activities with 600 students.
