Kano will host the Second Extraordinary Session of the Sixth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament from May 20.
Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser to Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, announced that the session will occur at the Bristol Hotel in Kano from May 20 to May 25, 2024.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s leader and ECOWAS Authority chairman, attended the inaugural session of the Sixth Legislature on April 4 this year.
During the inauguration, Senator Barau I Jibrin, Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, became the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.
According to Mudashir, the session will gather parliamentarians from Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
The ECOWAS Parliament, also called the Community Parliament, is an institution of ECOWAS. It serves as a platform for dialogue, consultation, and consensus among West African representatives to promote regional integration.
Established under Articles 6 and 13 of the revised ECOWAS Treaty of 1993, the Parliament has 115 seats.
