The management of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has suspended a lecturer in the Department of English and Literary Studies over the alleged sexual harassment of a 300L student from the same department and has set up a committee to immediately commence an investigation into the matter.
In a press statement issued by the management of the institution, it was stated that shortly after the Senate meeting, the university was inundated with an alleged case of sexual harassment involving the lecturer, who was brought to the university premises by the parents of the student involved.
“The University Management, ably led by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, recognises the gravity of the situation and is committed to handling it in the most decisive, transparent, and timely manner. Our institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual offences and frowns at such randy behaviour by any category of staff.
“We, therefore, wish to assure members of the university community and the general public that the Senate of the FUL is actively investigating this sensitive matter. The management stated:.
Meanwhile, a Senate committee has been constituted to investigate and make recommendations to management within 24 hours.
The accused has already been referred to the Department of State Services (DSS).
