- Edo State’s AFAN will support a governorship candidate with a strong agricultural agenda and demands the Commissioner for Agriculture position
- AFAN chairman Alhaji Bako Dogwo emphasized candidates must include farmers in their plans to receive farmers’ votes in the election
The Edo State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has declared that its members will only support a governorship candidate with a strong agricultural agenda. The association has also demanded a position in the state executive committee, specifically the office of Commissioner for Agriculture, from the September 21 governorship election winner.
During a press briefing in Benin, the state capital, AFAN state chairman Alhaji Bako Dogwo emphasized the importance of candidates’ clear policies and programs for the agricultural sector. He stated, “Candidates who do not include farmers in their plans or outline their agricultural programs in their manifestos will not receive farmers’ votes.”
Dogwo further stated, “The candidate backed by AFAN must be willing to appoint one of our members as Commissioner for Agriculture.”
He assured that AFAN is prepared to support any candidate, regardless of political party, who is willing to collaborate with them both during and after the election.
