On Monday, police at the Bristol Palace Hotel in Kano, the venue for the Second Extraordinary Session of the Sixth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament, barred some journalists from covering the event.
Reporters from many outlets were denied entry by a policeman at the hotel’s main entrance, despite presenting their identity cards. The officer insisted they contact the officials who invited them
After waiting for about 30 minutes without any response from the officials, and failing to convince the policeman, the journalists left, vowing not to cover the event.
The ECOWAS Parliament’s Second Extraordinary Session is scheduled to take place at the Bristol Hotel in Kano from May 20 to 25, 2024.
The event, according to Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, will attract parliamentarians from Nigeria, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote D’ Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone and the Republic of Togo.
