Six members of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) in Taraba state lost their lives in an auto crash on Saturday.
The victims were reportedly returning from the women’s wing CAN conference in Gembu, Sardauna LGA of Taraba, which concluded on Saturday.
Reacting to the incident, Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas extended his condolences to the victims’ families.
In a statement by his special adviser on media and digital communications, Emmanuel Bello, Kefas described the accident as “a black Sunday” for the state.
The governor assured that his administration is committed to constructing safer roads, particularly in areas that pose significant threats to life.
“While praying for the repose of their souls, I want to pledge my administration’s continuous commitment to safer roads, especially within areas that pose great threats to life,” the statement reads.
“I’ve already directed Local Government Chairmen to maintain existing roads with proper traffic controls, signages, and basic repairs.
“With this said development, we’ll work to minimise the sad occurrences of road mishaps occasioned by bad roads in the state.”
The governor also condoled with the CAN leadership, WOWICAN, and the entire Christian community in the state and the country.
