The Lagos police command has arrested a man for defrauding a citizen of Thailand of the sum of two hundred and sixteen thousand dollars.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesperson, said a suspect, identified as Chimereze Chinedu was arrested on May 10 in Enugu state.
Hundeyin said Chimereze was arrested by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), following weeks of diligent investigation and technical support from the INTERPOL
He said that suspect defrauded his victim under the pretense of selling 37 tricycles to her
“Chimereze further expanded his fraudulent activity by forging letters of the State Criminal Investigative Department, Lagos showing that the tricycles were seized by the police and further extorted Thirty Million Naira from the victim to purportedly secure the release of the tricycles,” the statement reads.
Hundeyin said an investigation is ongoing to apprehend all other individuals involved in the crime, adding that the suspect is currently in custody.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling internet fraud and ensuring the justice of perpetrators.
