Dr. Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, has announced the formulation of policies and initiatives to leverage innovation to address the nation’s challenges of insecurity, poverty, and unemployment.
The ministry developed these policies, which are integral to fostering the growth of the technology sector. With a focus on enhancing industrialization, the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO) has spearheaded the creation of 250 innovative technology research projects as part of this initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration of the North Central administrative office and modern analytical laboratory in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Dr. Nnaji emphasized the pivotal role of technology in Nigeria’s development trajectory. He stressed the importance of embracing innovation and industrialization to drive productivity and ensure a prosperous future.
The minister highlighted that removing fuel subsidies aligns with the government’s vision to promote indigenous industrialization and commercialization, particularly through organized technology and innovation platforms that harness inventors’ potential.
Dr. Jummai Adamu, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of FIIRO, reiterated the institute’s commitment to research and development for industrialization and socio-economic advancement. Establishing the zonal office in Langtang, she noted, aims to harness the area’s abundant resources for export while empowering local youth and women.
Former National Assembly member Hon. Beni Lar credited the late former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, with conceptualizing the project. Recognizing Langtang’s untapped potential, Dr. Onu advocated establishing the FIIRO office to leverage the region’s abundant resources for national development.
