- The House of Representatives directed the Aviation Minister to exempt military personnel from tollgate fees and airport parking charges
- Rep. Dasuki emphasized the need to show gratitude to military personnel who risk their lives for national security
The House of Representatives has instructed the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, to ensure that military personnel are exempt from paying tollgate fees and parking charges at airports nationwide.
This directive came after Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki presented a motion of urgent public importance during the plenary session on Tuesday.
Rep. Dasuki highlighted that Armed Forces members are currently required to pay for airport access even though they are responsible for protecting citizens and foreigners, whether on duty or travelling as passengers.
He noted that on May 14, the Minister of Aviation announced the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) decision to cancel all exemptions on airport access payments for VIPs to address the significant revenue losses to the federal government. The minister indicated that this decision would be implemented shortly.
Rep. Dasuki argued that expressing gratitude to the military personnel who serve the nation is crucial, often at great personal risk. He emphasized that many of these individuals sacrifice their lives or face severe injuries in the line of duty.
The House adopted the motion and directed its Committee on Aviation to ensure compliance with this directive.
