NAFDAC shuts down Lagos water factories over unhygienic conditions

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down several packaged water factories in Lagos State’s Alimosho area due to unhygienic conditions.

In a statement and accompanying photos shared on X.com on Wednesday, NAFDAC explained that the closures were the result of inspections by the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.

These inspections found that the factories were operating in unsanitary and unsafe conditions, violating good manufacturing practice regulations.

The statement partly read, “The inspections revealed that the unhygienic conditions of these factories posed serious health risks due to potential contamination by pathogenic microorganisms.

“As a result, several factories were sealed for non-compliance with NAFDAC regulations.”

NAFDAC further urged the public to be vigilant when purchasing sachets and bottled water and to also verify supply sources.

It urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
