Nigerian officials, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, met with high-level delegations from the Benin Republic to discuss enhancing trade, commerce, and bilateral relations between the two countries. This meeting was held under the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Minister Tuggar explained that the forum was organized following instructions from President Tinubu and President Patrice Talon of the Benin Republic. The goal was to fortify social and economic ties and boost trade between the two nations.

The discussions, which took place at the Segbana border post in the Benin Republic, centred on revitalizing the border crossing between Tsamiya in Nigeria and Angular Sule Wata in the Benin Republic through infrastructural development.

Bashir Adewale-Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, highlighted that the meeting aimed to foster regional integration, as established by the two presidents.

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi appreciated both presidents for facilitating trade and goods transportation between Nigeria and the Benin Republic. He noted that this initiative benefits border communities and residents through increased economic activities and social interactions.
