The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education (NCAOOSCE) is set to enhance the educational experience of Almajiri students by incorporating Arabic studies into their curriculum through collaboration with the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) and the Nigeria Arabic Language Village (NALV).
Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, the Executive Secretary of NCAOOSCE, revealed this during an inter-agency collaborative meeting in Kaduna. He emphasized the importance of providing Almajiri students with a well-rounded education that includes a deep understanding of the Arabic language and Islamic teachings.
In addition to partnering with NBAIS and NALV on Arabic studies, the commission is also working with other relevant agencies to further enhance Almajiri education. Dr. Sani Idris highlighted the introduction of English language education for Almajiri students, ensuring they acquire the skills necessary for success in a modern, globalized world.
Furthermore, Dr. Sani Idris appealed to NBAIS to transfer the Tsangaya Unit of the board to NCAOOSCE to serve as a learning center for reformed Almajiri education. He also mentioned the commission’s plan to provide an accelerated learning program for out-of-school children in the southern part of the country engaged in apprenticeship, enabling them to pursue tertiary education.
Prof. Yahuza Imam, the Registrar of NBAIS, and Prof. Ibrahim Muhammad, the CEO of NALV, pledged their full cooperation to address the challenges of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
