- The Federal High Court in Jos ordered Major General Abdulsalam E. Abubakar to unconditionally release detained Fulani leader, Baba Chiroma Waje Kado
- Justice Sharon Tanko Ishaya emphasized non-compliance with the release order would amount to contempt of court, reaffirming Kado’s immediate release
The Federal High Court in Jos has mandated the Commander of Operations Safe Haven and General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Abdulsalam E. Abubakar, to unconditionally release detained Fulani leader Baba Chiroma Waje Kado. This order comes as part of a ruling on a suit filed by Kado’s counsel, Badamasi K. Adams, seeking to enforce Kado’s fundamental rights.
Presided over by Justice Sharon Tanko Ishaya, the court emphasized that failing to comply with this order would amount to contempt. Kado has been detained since January 5, 2024, despite a prior court order issued on April 16, 2024, demanding his release. The security forces have thus far ignored the court’s directive.
On April 30, 2024, Adams informed the court that the respondents were aware of the order but continued to unlawfully detain his client. He requested the court enforce its original ruling. Justice Ishaya granted this application, reaffirming Kado’s immediate release requirement.
In response, Major Nantip Zhakom, the media officer for Operation Safe Haven, stated he would consult the legal officer regarding the court orders but had not provided any further information at the time of reporting.
