- Governor Zulum urged federal support for repatriating Nigerian refugees from Chad, Cameroon, and Niger to resume farming activities
- Zulum emphasized the need to resettle internally displaced persons (IDPs) to empower them economically by returning to their ancestral lands
Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, has urged the federal government, through the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) and federal lawmakers, to support his efforts in repatriating Nigerian refugees from neighbouring countries.
Zulum made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Usman Zannah, along with committee members and the managing director of the commission, Mohammed Alkali, in Maiduguri on Friday.
The governor highlighted that thousands of Borno indigenes, currently seeking refuge in Chad, Cameroon, and Niger Republic, are eager to return to their ancestral homes to resume farming activities.
“I urge you, esteemed lawmakers, and the NEDC, to assist the Borno state government in facilitating the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees to Nigeria.
“Our goal is to empower our people to sustain themselves economically, and the most viable solution is for them to return to their ancestral lands and engage in agricultural activities,” Zulum emphasized.
