Former Nigerian leaders, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar have praised Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), for his reform initiatives since assuming office.

Prof. Wushishi and the NECO management team gave the commendations during separate courtesy visits to the former leaders at their Hilltop residences in Minna. According to NECO’s spokesperson, Azeez Sani, both leaders emphasized NECO’s vital role in Nigeria’s educational development and called for continued support from Nigerians.

At General Babangida’s residence, Prof. Wushishi outlined his numerous challenges upon taking office, including a lack of basic facilities like office furniture, photocopying machines, operational vehicles, adequate office accommodations in many states, and low staff morale. He noted that many of these issues have been resolved through prudent resource management and significant reforms, significantly improving the Council’s operations.

After listening to Prof. Wushishi’s address, General Abdulsalami remarked, “I commend you for your ability to overcome these challenges and for positioning NECO in its rightful place among the world’s examination bodies.” Abdulsalami, whose administration facilitated NECO’s establishment in 1999, expressed satisfaction that NECO has become a formidable and reputable examination body despite initial difficulties.

The NECO management team also visited the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouq Bahago, who commended the Registrar for effectively addressing staff agitation and restiveness, further solidifying NECO’s standing.
