Again, two-storey building collapses in Lagos, many feared dead

The residents of the boisterous Lagos Island area in Lagos State were consumed by trepidation and agony on Wednesday after a two-storey building collapsed.

Many people are said to be trapped beneath the rubble of the collapsed building, sparking concern over imminent high number of casualties and dead persons.

It’s gathered that the edifice had become structurally defective after it was severely impacted by a raging inferno that engulfed some part of Dosunmu Market few weeks ago leaving its strength weakened and its integrity compromised

The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the Dosumu Market incident.

He had disclosed that 14 other buildings were seriously impacted by the fire.

In April, four buildings collapsed due to the intensity of the inferno that gutted part of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island.

He said emergency responders at the scene of the event included NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police and fire service of the Nigeria Ports Authority.
