An unspecified number of people are feared dead after bandits attacked Maro Junction market in the Maro Ward of Kajuru local government area in Kaduna State.
The police in Kaduna State report that five people were injured and one person was killed in the attack. However, local residents claim that at least 12 people were shot dead.
Confirming the incident to Channels Television, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, stated that the bandits invaded Maro Junction market around 4:30 pm on Wednesday, opened fire on the people inside the market, and shot indiscriminately in all directions.
He noted that five people sustained varying degrees of injuries and one person was killed, adding that an investigation is ongoing to determine the actual number of casualties.
The police PRO further mentioned that upon receiving a distress call, the police and other security operatives immediately rushed to the area and are currently tracking the bandits to apprehend them.
Some locals suspect that the bandits launched the attack from the Kanwa forest in the Kajuru local government area, where one of their camps is located.
