Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi has confirmed the numerous suitors vying for his services ahead of the upcoming season.

Ndidi, who became a free agent after the conclusion of the 2023/2024 English Football League (EFL) championship won by his club, addressed the speculation surrounding the interest of clubs like Olympique Lyonnais, Everton, and others.

Speaking with reporters yesterday during the groundbreaking ceremony of a hostel named after him at the Cana Junior Sports Centre in Ajegunle, formerly known as Maracana Stadium in Lagos, Ndidi revealed that various clubs have approached him. However, he emphasized that his decision will be based on what best suits him and his family.

“I have been contacted and am currently evaluating my options with my family. The decision will be made in the coming days. I haven’t finalized anything yet, but hopefully, we will see what unfolds in the coming week,” he said.

Ndidi expressed satisfaction with his involvement in grassroots sports development in Nigeria. He stated that his participation in this project stems from his desire to improve facilities for young athletes, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on their lives.

“It’s truly amazing because, during my playing days, the situation wasn’t like this. I am delighted to witness the progress here. This initiative will undoubtedly make a significant difference and bring joy to the children,” he remarked.

Yemi Idowu, chairman of the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, highlighted the construction of the Cana Junior Sports Centre in Ajegunle as evidence of private sector involvement in the sports sector.

“The government cannot do everything, so the private sector must lend support. However, this assistance must be structured, and this project exemplifies that,” he stated.
