A devastating windstorm has wreaked havoc in the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
At least 500 houses were affected by the incident which happened last Thursday.
The National Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the incident, saying five people also sustained varying degrees of injury.
In a short statement shared on its X handle on Thursday, the agency said no casualty was recorded in the incident.
The emergency agency added that the impact of the windstorm resulted in collapse of buildings, removal of rooftops and walls being shattered.
NEMA said, “Over 500 houses were damaged by a windstorm in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
“The storm, which occurred on Thursday, May 23, 2024, resulted in five injuries but no fatalities.
“The incident caused the collapse of walls and structures and tore off rooftops.”
Last month, a windstorm in the Agbashi community of Doma LGA, Nasarawa, destroyed over 100 houses.
One person was killed and several injured during the incident.
Vice-Chairman John Bako-Ari of the Doma council area confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that it occurred on Tuesday.
Bako-Ari added that the affected structures include the Agbashi Central Mosque, a primary school, and various public buildings.
“It’s true that the windstorm destroyed over 100 houses, including a mosque and a primary school. The incident happened yesterday (Tuesday) in the evening,” he said.
